Designing and programming a
website for munkmadsen.dk
This project was a freelance job I worked on from march 2020 to august 2020. The client needed a website for her company “Afspændt, klar og åben”. In collaboration with the client I worked out a design for the site, while she gathered the content. I then programmed the website using HTML, CSS and Javascript, and set up some SEO as well. The client had an old domain name registered at Hostmaster which I moved to my webhotel One and then launched the site. All throughout the project I kept in touch with the client in order to keep her updated and make sure the site was going in the right direction.

I worked on the design of the site in Sketch where I came up with a lot of different versions before I landed on a design both I and the client was happy with. Originally I had an idea with some graphic characters, but it clashed with the photos the client had provided and in the end it wasn’t right for the site so we went another way. I also used Sketch to determine whitespace, breaks and text length, before programming it.

When it came to the programming of the site I used Brackets and built the site with HTML, CSS and Javascript. In order to make the site responsive and work on all devices, I used flexbox in CSS in order to wrap items on top or next to each other. In order for the site to look more professional I added a piece of code that insured the site would be “safe” and a piece of code that removed the “.html” from the url. In the head of the code I placed the fonts for the site as well as the meta-tags and descriptions for the SEO.

By adding meta-tags and descriptions in the head of the code, Google will pick up the site and display it on the search engine. I have frequently checked on the site using Google Analytics as well as seen which page the site is on when googling the name “munk madsen”. Over time the site has moved from page eight, result two to page one, result one.
